Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of all that’s great about bikes and cycling. Held over a week in June of each year with bike themed events organised by local authorities, community groups and cycling groups throughout Ireland.
There are numerous cycling related events running in Sligo throughout bike week, you can view a full list of these events at bikeweek.ie. Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership has linked with numerous other organisations and clubs to help run the following events;
Adult Cycling Lessons – Daily
Cycle lessons will take place off the public road on cycle lanes at Cleveragh and Doorly Park. If you have not cycled before, in over 20years or are just a bit nervous to head on to the road yet then these lessons will help build your confidence, refresh your cycling skills or help you learn some new skills. Bikes and helmets are provided. Take part in one or all 8 or just 1, it’s up to you. Taking place mornings 10.30am ot 11.30am Mon-Fri and Evening 5pm to 6pm Mon-Wed.

Adult Mountain Biking Lesson – 13th June
Tuesday Evening 6.30pm to 8.30pm. This session is for adults who would like to give mountain biking a go. Coaches will lead you through the basic skills needed and you will try out trails that suit your level of cycling experience. Taking place in Unionwoods, meeting at the Ballygawley entrance.

Teenage Mountain Biking – 14th June
Wednesday Evening 6.30pm to 8.30pm. This session is for teenagers aged 12years and over who would like to give mountain biking a go. Meeting in Cleveragh Park and biking to Cairns Wood where coaches will teach the basic skills needed to cycle the trails.

Lunch Time Cycle – Wednesday 14th June
A Leisure Cycle taking place from Riverside Hotel through Doorly Park and Cleveragh Park along the cycle paths before returning for refreshments to Riverside Hotel. Some bikes will be available for use – Limited and given on a first come first served basis.

Pedal to Paddle – Various session throughout the week
A Leisure Cycle and Stand-up-Paddle Board taster session. Age restrictions apply for these sessions. Places are limited and pre booking essential. Meeting point is the boat house at Doorly Park.
- Sunday 11th June 3pm-4.30pm, Family Session, children under 10years must bring their own bikes and will not be allowed on the water but can participate in Fun Skills and Drills Cycling Session. This session is Free.
- Sunday 11th June 5pm – 6.30pm Over 16years, this session is open to the public and there is a cost of €5 payable on the day.
- Monday 12th June 6.30pm – 8pm Over 40years, this is open to the public and there is a cost of €5 payable on the day.
